Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu, said the emergence of the Golden Stool would be the highlight of the grand durbar marking Otumfuo’s 15 years on the throne.

He therefore entreated the public to throng the Baba Yara Stadium, venue of the historic event, to make the occasion a grand and memorable one.

The Golden Stool, which is considered sacred by the Asantes, was last brought out for the public to have a glimpse of in 2009 when Otumfuo marked his tenth anniversary.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu said prominent people from across the globe, including President John Dramani Mahama and some world leaders, would be in attendance. The function, the Mayor said, would see Otumfuo sitting in state.

Speaking to the media at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, Kojo Bonsu was optimistic that the rich Asante culture would be on display during the durbar.

Nana Atta Poku Agyeman, Grand Nephew of Otumfuo, said the Asantehene would ride in a palanquin from Aborotia to the stadium.

Nana Poku Agyeman urged the media to collaborate with the Manhyia Palace so as to make the event historic.

Nana Yaw Owusu, Otumfuo Mpaboahene, assured the public that no rain would disrupt the event.

He said although nobody could challenge God, he was very optimistic that there would not be any downpour in Kumasi on Sunday.

According to him, God has given human beings the power to control natural occurrences like rainfall.

Nana Owusu said during a recent durbar of queen mothers in Kumasi, it rained heavily in the city with the exception of the Manhyia Palace area.

He said it only rained at the Manhyia Palace after the programme, which formed part of activities marking Otumfuo’s 15th milestone, had come to an end.
