World number two Djokovic has never won the title at Roland Garros, but remains on course to complete a career grand slam after hammering home hope Tsonga 6-1 6-4 6-1.

The Serbian overcame Tsonga in a five-set epic in 2012, but needed just one hour and 29 minutes to achieve the same outcome this time around.

Victory for Djokovic marks the 20th consecutive time that he has reached the quarter-finals of a grand slam event.

Having seen Ernests Gulbis stun Roger Federer in the preceding match, the Court Philippe Chatrier crowd would have been hopeful of Frenchman Tsonga springing another surprise.

But any hope of a Tsonga triumph was quickly put to bed as Djokovic eased his way through the first set, breaking serve twice en route to opening up a 5-0 lead.

Tsonga – who committed 38 unforced errors – did show some resolve after trailing 5-2 in the second set, but the task of clawing back a double-break proved to be too large as Djokovic edged closer to victory.

Djokovic finished things off in ruthless fashion thereafter, setting up a last-eight meeting with Milos Raonic after the Canadian beat Marcel Granollers 6-3 6-3 6-3.
