Former Director of Finance and Administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Opare Hammond has described the party Chairman and General Secretary as “empty barrels” for alleging that he misappropriated funds while in office.
According to him, such “face-saving fabrications” by Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong are just to justify their actions.
The NPP National Chairman at a press conference to set the records straight on certain decisions that have generated public debate explained that Mr. Hammond was relieved of his duty due to “disobedience, conflict of interest and financial impropriety”.
“There has been evidence of expenditure made but nothing to show for it; funding for the party has also not been properly handled,” Mr. Afoko added.
Explaining his side of the story, a livid Opare Hammond on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, expressed shock at what he described as “unfortunate” comments by Paul Afoko.
According to him, though he is the Director of Finance of the NPP, “I cannot divert any funds becuase I don’t have direct access to the party’s accounts”.
“This allegation is mere after thought; I have sacrificed my time to do party work for free so why will I divert funds” he bemoaned.
Opare Hammond could not fathom why the Chairman will accuse him of misappropriating party funds while “I have not been given a fair hearing after I was dismissed”.
“They [Afoko, Agyepong] have shown clearly that they are not good administrators because they should know the National Treasure is in charge of party’s accounts not me” he stressed.
The former NPP Member of Parliament for Adenta said it is difficult to believe that the two executives who campaigned on the note of bringing us together are now working assiduously to divide us.
Opare Hammond also denied being disrespectful to the Chairman and General Secretary as it is has been alleged.
“I have a very calm demeanor; I never showed any disrespect or arrogance to them. I cooperated very well with them while in office” he stated. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
