Some irate supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mpohor District of the Western Region have protested against President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the district chief executive (DCE) position, Ignatius Asaah Mensah, threatening that he would not be confirmed by the assembly members.

According to them, they could not fathom why the president did not listen to their plea to select someone who is from Mpohor as the area’s DCE.

They asserted that the major positions in the Mpohor NPP were being occupied by people who are from the Fiase tribe.

“The NPP chairman for the area, his vice, the women’s organizer, the presiding member of the assembly and the Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Alex Agyekum, are all from Fiase,” they pointed out.

They continued, “So the preferred choice of majority of the party members here for the position of the DCE is Bernard Eshun, who is from Mpohor.”

The supporters, who were clad in red armbands, said information available to them suggests that their MP was the one who schemed for their choice of candidate to be dropped.

They have therefore warned him (MP) to be ready to face dire consequences since they would use all means to ensure that the president’s nominee is not confirmed by the elected assembly members.

“We are calling on the regional and national executives of the NPP to come and take the constituency office from Mpohor and send it to Fiase since the party does not want any member from Mpohor to hold any position,” they charged.

Prestea

Meanwhile, the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency branch of the NPP has congratulated Mr. Mozart Owuh on his nomination as the DCE for the area.

“We wish to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for nominating Mr. Mozart Owuh as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Prestea Huni Valley District,” they said.

A statement signed by the Communications Officer of the party in the area, Felix Quainoo claimed, “We have confidence in Owuh’s ability to deliver and so we expect him to roll up his sleeves and hit the ground running after his confirmation”.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem

In the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency also, the party members have congratulated the president’s nominee, Gilbert Kennedy Asmah, on his appointment as the Municipal Chief Executive,.
