Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia

The Tijjaniya Muslims of Ghana last Saturday honoured Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia during a massive Islamic birthday activity to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Mohammed in Kumasi referred to as Maulud Nabiyi in Arabic.

He was presented with a certificate of honour with lavish citation by the National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu who was supported by Shaikh Zaeem Abdul Wadud Harun, President of the Tijjaniya Muslims of Ghana during the Kumasi activity which attracted hundreds of the faithful to the venue from as far afield as Accra.

The Tijjaniyas acknowledged the achievements of the Vice President in the spheres of education, politics, and as they put it “service to Allah and humanity.”

The respect they observed he commands in the global Scholarly Community is a source of inspiration to the Ghanaian youth irrespective of their political affiliations, they said.

“Your expertise in economics, banking, finance, and related disciplines is a blessing to the Republic of Ghana.”

“Your decision to move from industry to politics is a major contributor to the consolidation of constitutional order and sanitization of democratic politics. Indeed, you are an epitome of sanity in political discourse and authority in economic analysis” they said in the citation accompanying the honour.

It is, therefore, not surprising they noted “that your predictions on relevant national matters are devoid of indecorous language and dignified by technical know-how. Undoubtedly, such predictions provoke serious thinking, activate responsible political debates, generate an avalanche of critical opinions from both sides of the political divide, and lead to collective solutions to issues confronting the Nation.”

The Zongo Development Policy of the Government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), they went on, “ which has given birth to the Ministry of Zongo Development and Inner Cities Affairs, is laudable. It is to help ensure equity in the future national development agenda and correct the imbalances in the current development space” adding “we note with pride and happiness that you are a leading figure in the formulation and possible implementation of that policy.”

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia had earlier assured Ghanaians that the government of the New Patriotic Party is committed to making good its promise of implementing the Zongo Development policy, the making of Arabic an examinable subject in senior high school and the free SHS.
