Truck Runs Over Crab Hunter

A normal  crab hunting by three male friends in a lagoon around the Takoradi Polytechnic traffic light along the Takoradi-Sekondi main road, turned tragic when one of the friends was allegedly run over by a truck, injuring him in the process.

The victim, identified as Ashin Muntari, a class five pupil of Porter ‘A’ Basic School at Effiakuma near Takoradi, was allegedly trapped under the long truck which was being used to cart boulders for the Takoradi Port expansion.

He sustained serious injuries as the flesh of his right arm was peeled off and the bones fractured. An eyewitness account had it that the accident happened around the Takoradi Polytechnic Traffic intersection at about 2:30 pm.

The eyewitness intimated that after the crab expedition, the victim was riding on a bike when the two other colleagues, playing with the victim, allegedly pushed Muntari when the truck was approaching.

The victim then lost control and crashed with the long truck which was carrying the boulders to the Takoradi Port, resulting in his predicament.

When he was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH) in Sekondi, her step mum, who was taking care of him, was also being given oxygen in an intensive care unit.

A source at the hospital told journalists that the boy was sent to the theatre yesterday for a surgery to fix his fractured arm.
