Amoateng’s NACOB invitation is routine; no political witch-hunt – Akrasi Sarpong

The Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board Akrasi Sarpong has dismissed accusations that NACOB is witch-hunting former Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng.

Amoateng touched down in Ghana around 2:40 pm after serving a 10-year jail term in US prisons, having been found guilty of drug trafficking.

Just when he arrived, he was picked up and escorted to the offices of the NACOB officials for a debriefing session.

He is likely to be arrested by the police for allegedly securing a travel passport through fraudulent means.

Hundreds of supporters, mainly from Nkoranza North besieged the airport to welcome their former MP but they were left disappointed when police and NACOB officials whisked him away.

The disappointed supporters started accusing officials of NACOB of witch-hunting, an accusation officials of NACOB have vehemently denied.

Executive Secretary Akrasi Sarpong told Myjoyonline.com, the debriefing session is a normal routine every drug related ex-convict goes through.

“Why should Amoateng be treated differently,?” he demanded.

He lashed out at critics whom he said have decided to make political capital out of the situation, saying NACOB will carry out its duties without fear or favour.
