Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, Bull Dog
The prosecution in the trial of Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, also known as Bull Dog, told an Accra Magistrate Court on Friday that it needed some time to conclude investigations into the case.
Prosecution stated that there were some aspects of the case the police were still investigating and accordingly prayed the court for an adjournment.
With counsel for the accused absent on Friday, the trial judge, Mavis Quainoo, accordingly adjourned the case to August 13 to enable the prosecution to complete its investigations.
Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, manager of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, is standing trial for his alleged involvement in the death of Fennec Okeyre, who was the manager of controversial Hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese, aka Abodam.
Bull Dog, 36, who also doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bull Haus Entertainment, was picked by the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) recently at Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, as a prime suspect in Fennec’s death.
His plea has not been taken, even though per the police charge sheet, he has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
It may be recalled that the court, in a similar fashion, recently rejected a request by the prosecution seeking to order the accused person to provide the password to his mobile phone.
The trial judge had held that that could not happen because the prosecution had not given any reason why they wanted Bull Dog’s password.
Gary Nimako, counsel for Bull Dog, disagreed insisting that the behaviour of the prosecution was tantamount to embarking on a ‘fishing expedition’.
He said his client’s phone had nowhere been mentioned in the subject matter before the court, and described the attitude of the prosecutor as ‘witch hunting’ rather than proper trial.
Counsel Nimako had argued that the charges levelled against his client could not hold because the prosecution had not been able to link him to Fennec’s murder.
Meanwhile, an Accra High Court on May 27 granted Bull Dog bail.
