The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has rebuffed claims that its four day protest against unfavourable government policies is politically motivated.
According to the President of the Association, Gorge Ofori, they are only seeking the interest of their members and not to champion the cause of any political party.
GUTA has begun its scheduled protest in Accra and Kumasi today, Tuesday, June 24, to Friday, June 27, 2014.
The agitation, according to the association, was a first sign of caution to the government to act swiftly to reverse the policies or continue to face the wrath of its members.
But there have been allegations that some opposition party parties are behind the strike to make the country ungovernable for government.
But in a riposte on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Gorge Ofori said such assertions should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
He indicated that just like Jesus Christ was betrayed by one of his own, some judas’ among them are peddling such falsehood to thwart their effort.
The GUTA president indicated that as government increases taxes, prices of goods and services skyrocket and they don’t need any political party to tell them to take their destiny into their own hands.
‘Foreigners have taken over our business and government is looking on unconcerned. But we are not going to allow that to happen’ he warned.
He also warned of dire consequences if any GUTA member flaunts their directive not to open their shops for four days.
