England head coach Stuart Lancaster adds 16 to New Zealand tour squad

The bulk of those joining the tour are from Northampton Saints and Saracens, who contested the Aviva Premiership final on Saturday.

Bath’s Anthony Watson and Kyle Sinckler of Harlequins have also been included in the group, which features experienced hooker Dylan Hartley.

Alex Waller, scorer of the match-winning try in Northampton’s 24-20 win over Saracens at Twickenham, takes the place of Mako Vunipola, who was ruled out on Friday with a knee injury.

England’s squad for the tour, which will encompass three Tests against New Zealand and a clash with Super Rugby side Crusaders, now stands at 47 players.

And Lancaster was keen to stress that every squad member will get a chance to impress.

“We are looking forward to the guys flying in and adding to the group,” Lancaster told the RFU’s website.

“We watched the Aviva Premiership final and the England XV game against the Barbarians and are pleased with how the players performed and came through.

“There are no major injuries which would prevent anyone flying and, with four big games to come, we are confident there will be opportunities for everyone on the tour.

“It is great to be able to work with a wider group and we feel that the younger players will really benefit from the experience of coming to New Zealand, understanding the culture and challenging themselves in this the most competitive of environments.”

England’s first Test with New Zealand takes place on Saturday at Eden Park in Auckland.
