The Pole is now the highest ranked seed left in the women’s event, after the shock exits of Li Na and Serena Williams on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
It opens the door for Radwanska to claim her first grand slam title, after previous semi-final appearances at Wimbledon and the Australian Open, as well as a quarter-final showing in last year’s tournament at Roland Garros.
She got off to a fine start against the world number 53 on Wednesday, breaking for a 2-0 lead with a routine backhand volley at the net.
Radwanska lost that advantage in game five when Pliskova broke back, but the third seed came again, hitting back in game eight before holding in the next to edge ahead.
Pliskova raised her game in the early stages of the second set, and broke Radwanska in game six, causing the Pole to bounce her racket off the floor in frustration.
That was as good as it got for Pliskova though, the Czech seeming to crumble from that point on.
Radwanska broke back immediately when her opponent sent the ball wide, and after a comfortable hold, the world number three took advantage of Pliskova’s nerves, forcing three break points in game nine.
She was not required to make a shot to seal the break as Pliskova double faulted, and Radwanska’s passage into round three was secured when Pliskova sent a backhand return into the net.
