A veteran statistician has waded into the discussion about transforming Ghana’s economy.
He advised government to be wary of the solutions proposed by the Bretton Woods institutions.
According to Daasebre Oti Boateng, Omanhene of New Juabeng, the solutions by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and her sister agencies do not meet all statistical requirements.
He explained that the IMF solutions do not satisfy the interdependency variables of the country.
These, he noted, were the real deficiencies associated with the solutions of the Bretton Woods institutions.
Daasebre made the submission when over 30 journalists of the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) Ghana paid a courtesy call on him at his Palace in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.
The journalists climaxed a four-day training programme on Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), with special focus on the mining industry.
He stressed the need for a ‘national homegrown development plan’ to transform the nation.
He also lauded the organization of the National Economic Forum (NEF) earlier this month at Senchi and reiterated the need for a holistic national development plan.
The Omanhene said such a development module should guide the country’s medium to long term plan.
He stressed that ‘Development must start from the grassroots. We cannot go any other way, except the home-grown way.’
