2014 World Cup: Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah rallies nation’s support

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has made a call to the nation’s football fans to rally support for his provisional squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

The ‘silent killer’ announced an initial 26-man squad on Monday, expected to be pruned down to 23 later this month.

The squad has been met with little or no criticisms as it present the country’s best crop of players both at home and abroad.

And the Ghanaian trainer is rallying full support for the team ahead of the mundial.

“Throughout qualification we enjoyed fantastic support from everyone in Ghana. The players know that when they wear the Black Stars shirt they are playing for the whole nation,” he said

“So when we are in Brazil we will have all of you, our fans, in our thoughts. We know you will be with us in every moment and at every stage.

“In Ghana we each share a wonderful passion for the game. But I believe we must also share the responsibility to inspire a new generation to play the game.

“Every person in the country is part of our squad, we are one team. And so I will urge all of us to come together for Ghana.”

The team will begin preparations for the tournament on May 20.

The Africans have drawn USA, Germany and Portugal in group G.
