The youth wing of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP,) Progressive Youth Movement (PYM,) has challenged the President, John Dramani Mahama, to stop talking and concentrate on fulfilling promises he made to Ghanaians in the run-up to the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to the PPP youth, they are not convinced about the president’s competence to deliver on promises he made in 2012.
This was stated in statement issued yesterday in Accra and signed by the party’s National Youth Coordinator, Divine Nkrumah.
“We challenge President Mahama to deliver what he has promised and essentially make the PPP redundant in 2016,” the statement noted.
The statement also charged the president to put in place policies that will improve the lot of Ghanaians.
The PPP, the statement noted, will become redundant in 2016 if President Mahama ensures uninterrupted supply of electricity, water and fuel; provide Free, Continuous and Compulsory education policy from kindergarten to Senior High School level; fight corruption and ensure the passage of the Freedom of Information bill into Law; decouple the legislature from the executive through a change in the constitution, and use the purchasing power of the state to promote what we produce in Ghana.”
President Mahama will also make PPP jobless when he ensures “we have an independent Attorney-General separate from the Minister of Justice; give Ghanaians the opportunity to elect their own DCE/MCEs without any interference from the presidency, improve the health sector drastically; provide well-built homes on secure tenancies at reasonable rents to ordinary Ghanaians in excess of 10,000 in every region; ameliorate our road network by building inter-regional highways, and; improve the living standards of Ghanaians to befit a middle income status.”
The statement continued that if all these are done before 2016 there will be no need for PPP to campaign in 2016; “that is to say, we may be forced to throw our support behind the NDC.”
According to the statement, the PPP will not waste its time and resources to do any campaign in 2016 if President Mahama lives up to its promises.
However, the statement said the failure of President Mahama to honour his promises will make sense for PPP to seek political power from Ghanaians in 2016.
“If the President is unable to accomplish these objectives before 2016, we will have no option than to replace the current administration clothed with mismanagement, incompetence and thievery with a more determined and can do leadership,” it averred.
It said the PPP will continue to pray for the NDC government to succeed adding “we are not players of the “pull-him-down” syndrome.”
According to the PPP youth, the current administration has no reason to fail, pointing out the enormous resources at its disposal.
“We believe that if the NDC fails, all Ghanaians have failed. Our time would have gone wasted as a people and the future of our unborn generations will continuously be rendered bleak,” the statement insisted.
It said the NDC as a social democrat party has deviated from its core responsibility of improving the lives of Ghanaians.
“Nothing seems to be working in Ghana and nobody in government is prepared to give reasons and show the way,” the statement said.
The statement bemoaned the wastage of state resources which the PPP claimed has been the bane of the country’s economic woes.
“…the NDC prefers to give the tax payers’ money to apparatchiks for no work done; takes delight in investing in phony non-existing projects in the north, yet the people in whose name the projects have been outlined, do not see those projects,” the statement noted.
“…NDC prefers the appointment of incompetent so-called foot-soldiers as ministers and district chief executives,” the statement continued.
Against this backdrop, the PPP youth urged Ghanaians not to lose hope but continue to offer their best for the success of Ghana.
