With barely eight days to the National Executives Election of the News Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tamale, some aspirants have expressed concern about what they describe as  ‘’dirty campaign and politics of insults’’.

One such person is Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, a leading contender for the General Secretary position of NPP who has called on delegates to disregard the propaganda painting him black.

The very unhappy Kwabena Agyepong in an interview on Eyewitness News said it is important all contestants restrict themselves to a positive campaign.

According to him, some persons are campaigning in the Northern region, saying, ‘’… if Kwabena Agyepong is in charge of the party then Dr. Bawumia has no chance to become presidential candidate, and many such disgusting propaganda.’’

‘’I think it is totally uncalled for; no such thing has happened, it’s a pure concoction and fabrication…,’’ he said.

The former Press Secretary to Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor said this kind of campaigning is untypical of the NPP.

He called on other aspirants to be engaged in issue based campaign.  ‘’My campaign has been issues based, [I have not made] one statement against anybody; I think it is very important that we restrict ourselves to a positive campaign,’’ he opined.

Mr Agyepong also stated that unlike some other aspirants, he has and will never campaign on anybody’s popularity, according to him the delegates will vote for him because of his competence and record of selfless service to the party.

‘’I have never campaigned on anybody’s popularity, I will never tie my apron strings to an individual, I will tie it to the party,’’ he said.

He revealed that he has lodged complaints to the National Executive Committee of the party about the some aspirants are spreading falsehood about him.

The NPP will on the 12 of April, 2014 elect new national executives in Tamale.
