Mrs Paulina Delali Adinyirah, Kpando Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has said a change in the national psyche towards positive attitude to time and its management, could propel an accelerated development across all spheres.
She said the negative effects of unbridled time mismanagement, usually referred to as “African time” was an affront to accelerated development, and must be “expunged from our national discourse.”
Mrs Adinyirah, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, and said chronic lateness to events was sickening and demands a national crusade to eradicate this canker.
She said leadership should extol the resolve and virtues of prompt time management in their constituents by adhering starting events on time approved against programmes at the unit, local, district, municipal, regional and national levels.
The MCE said establishments with the capacity to undertake a research to quantify how much time mismanagement the State was losing to development and that was likely to bring out the enormity of the problem, at the same time a reference point to guide all. Mrs Adinyirah said at the Municipal level, members of the area would be educated on the positive virtues of time management to national development, redefine promptness of time on event programmes, after, which all events of the Assembly would begin on approved time irrespective of people present.
She warned that henceforth, honouring invitations by the Assembly would be based on how event organisers, including traditional areas, Churches and NGOs treated time or be blacklisted.
“We want to give the youth a different orientation about time management, and then collectively we can change attitudes by practising what we demonstrate,” she added.
