Cape Coast Court Dismisses Parliamentary Petition

The Cape Coast High Court Monday struck out a parliamentary petition brought against the Members of Parliament for Mfantseman and Hemang Lower Denkyira constituencies, Mr Thomas Tawiah Quansah and Foster Andoh respectively.

The petition was filed jointly by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman West, Mr Asamoah Boateng, and the NPP parliamentary candidate for Hemang Lower Denkyira, Mr Lawrence Agyensiam, over alleged malpractices, non-signing of pink sheets and other related matters in the two constituencies during the 2012 parliamentary elections.

The court, presided over by Justice J.B. Benson, awarded costs of GH¢ 1,000 each against the petitioners, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng and Lawrence Agyensiam.

“By virtue of the discontinuance notice filed by the petitioners, this action is dismissed as discontinued,” Justice Benson said.

The petitioners filed the case in January 2013, contesting the election results in the two constituencies.
