SEVERAL TEACHERS in private senior high schools (SHS) across the country stand the risk of losing their jobs as early as next year when the final batch of the fourth-year students graduate.
Issuing the unpleasant news, Mr. Osei Mensah of the Assemblies of God SHS, Tafo Nhyiaeso, said several teachers in the private SHS would become redundant when the last batch fourth-year students graduate.
Since no student would proceed to form four, he said, those teachers that the private schools employed to teach the final year students would become idle.
Mr. Mensah said keeping those teachers in the school would not be financially reasonable for the private schools so definitely such teachers would have to be sacked.
He unleashed the bombshell when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo/Pankrono, Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, presented 100 bags of cement to help in the school’s infrastructural development.
Mr. Mensah, using his school as a reference point, said the school’s current population of 900 would be reduced to about 300 when the form three and the last batch of the form four students graduate together next year.
This, he noted, would make most of the classrooms empty therefore it could trigger in the sacking of most of the teachers.
Mr. Mensah appealed to the authorities concerned to include the private schools in the computer placement system, insisting the private schools were also playing vital roles to transform education in the country.
Dr. Akoto Osei said the donation of the cement was in fulfillment of a promise he made to the school, calling on the school authorities to continue their good works in the training of the students.
