The national executives and members of the women’s wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have held a prayer meeting to seek God’s favour for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and all NPP parliamentary candidates.
The women also prayed to God to guide the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner so as to ensure peace and unity in the country before, during and after the elections on 7th December 2012.
The event, the national women’s day of prayer, held at the Efua Southerland Children’s Park during the week, was attended by women organizers from the various constituencies and supporters of the party.
Key personalities of the NPP also graced the occasion with award winning gospel singer, Diana Asamoah leading the women in a praise and worship session.
Otiko Afisah Djaba, NPP national women’s organizer, speaking to journalists at the prayer meeting, said the meeting was set aside for NPP women “to come together and cry unto the Lord to hear our prayers concerning our party the NPP, our flagbearer and the unity of the country.”
She said women have over the years prayed consistently to effect change in difficult situations, stressing that the women’s wing of NPP also took it up to pray every Wednesday for the party and its flagbearer, especially during the election season.
“It is a special time for us the women to come together and pray for peace in this country. We will also pick a day and even fast for the things we have talked about,” she said.
She said like all the Marys, Ruths, Naomis and Esthers in the Bible, the NPP women would continue to pray for mother Ghana.
She said prayer sessions would be held by the constituency women organizers across the country on a chosen day.
“We, at the national level, also have picked Wednesday where we the national executives come together to pray,” Djaba said.
She also noted that the women will continue to pray even after the election because “Nana Addo is going to win this election by God’s grace so we need to pray for the Spirit of God to continue to guide him with wisdom to carry out the big agenda to get free education to ensure there is transformation.”
“These are serious times in the development of a country and the women must be counted, we must complement the work of our brothers and sons,” she said.
