Bloemfontein – The 28-year-old son of an NG Church dominee who was murdered in Harrismith, has been arrested, Volksblad reports.
The son’s arrest came hours after a man, his clothes covered in blood, was arrested along the N3.
Willem Brits, 60, and his daughter’s fiancé, 25-year-old Gerhard Vermeulen, died during the brutal attack at the manse on Thursday evening. The clergyman was shot and hacked with an axe. Vermeulen was shot.
His wife, Dorothea, who was also attacked with an axe, is fighting for her life in a Bloemfontein hospital.
Their daughter Thea, 24, who was at home at the time of the attack, was tied up and left unharmed.
The SABC reported on Saturday morning that police were investigating the possibility of a contract murder.
