Cape Town – An off-duty police reservist was shot and wounded and her boyfriend was shot dead in Old Crossroads early on Thursday.

The reservist, 34, was shot in the stomach and is in a serious condition in hospital.

The incident came a day after a memorial service was held for slain policeman, Warrant Officer Douglas Moses. He was shot while on duty in Philippi.

The number of police officers shot this month now stands at six.

“The female victim was admitted to hospital in a serious condition, it appears as if the shots were fried from outside [her] house,” Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, police spokesman, said.

Traut said that no arrests had yet been made in connection with the incident.

The shooting took place in the Thabo Mbeki informal settlement in Old Crossroads just after midnight.

Provincial Emergency Medical Service spokeswoman Keri Davids said two patients had been admitted to GF Jooste Hospital at around that time, but she couldn’t confirm that it was the same incident

The injured reservist is one of two shot this month who escaped with just injuries.

Two police constables lost their lives after they were shot in Hout Bay; a senior metro police officer was shot dead in Khayelitsha while ticketing a taxi driver; a police sergeant was shot and injured on duty in Belhar and 50-year-old Moses was shot and killed while patrolling in Mitchells Plain.

Speaking at a memorial service for Moses in Hanover Park yesterday, provincial police chief Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer said the police would remain focused and committed to their duties despite the recent spate of police killings.
