Ghana won bronze at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan
The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) have congratulated the Black Maidens and the Black Stars for their respective feats.
The Black Maidens won bronze at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan while the Black Stars secured qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The PFAG in a statement copied to GHANAsoccernet.com have thus have hailed the achievements of both teams.
“The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) is extremely delighted and proud of the Black Maidens for their performance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Baku, which won them bronze,” the statement read.
“After their impressive run in the competition was painfully halted by France and Ghana was denied an historic place in the finals, the Black Maidens recovered bravely and showed remarkable strength and determination to surmount the tough odds in their third place match against an unrelenting Germany.
“The Maidens won the day by a lone goal despite ending the game with nine players. PFAG congratulates the Black Maidens and Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani for the inspiring feat.
“And drawing on the stirring performance of the Maidens, the Black Stars, playing in a different time zone in Lilongwe doused the Flames of Malawi in a combative display to qualify for the African Cup of Nations next year in South Africa (CAN 2013).
“PFAG is particularly very happy with John Paintsil who showed a lot of maturity in regards to the captainship.
“Credit must also go to Coach Kwesi Appiah and the technical team for instilling that fighting spirit and rekindling the team spirit in the Stars’ camp, ahead of CAN 2013.
“We join all Ghanaians in saying proudly a big “ayekoo” to the Black Maidens and the Black Stars and their handlers.”
