Poll: Should Manchester United cash in on captain Nemanja Vidic?

POLL

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has been an integral part of the club’s recent glittering success, leading the side to four Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph in nearly seven years at Old Trafford.

However, Goal.com understands United are contemplating selling the Serbian defender, with mega-rich Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala rumoured to be preparing a huge bid.

And with the 30-year-old’s recent injury woes forcing Sir Alex Ferguson into looking at alternatives for the centre-back position, is it the right time for the United boss to cash in on his prize defender?

Vidic ruptured a cruciate ligament against Basel in December last year and missed the rest of the season as Manchester City pipped United to the Premier League title with virtually the last kick of the campaign.

The Serb returned to the United side this season, but suffered an injury to the same knee in September, which required surgery once more, ruling him out for another two months.

United have been short of options in defence this season, but Chris Smalling is set to return for the side’s clash with Stoke on October 20, while current centre-back pairing Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans are also fit.

With Phil Jones set to return in November, Ferguson may well decide to accept a big-money offer from the Russians and opt to re-invest in a younger, more reliable option at the heart of his defence.

So, do you think Sir Alex Ferguson should sell a player who has won two Barclays Player of the Season awards while at United, or can the Serbian still be inspirational for the club despite his recent injury problems?
