Al Hilal secure Confed Cup semifinal slot

Al Hilal’s Edward Sadomba celebrates his goal

Al Hilal beat their Sudanese counterparts Al Ahly Shandy 2-0 at home to go top of Group A in their penultimate game to secure their 2012 CAF Confederation Cup semifinal place.

A brace from Zimbabwean international and attacking midfielder Edward Sadomba secured Al Hilal’s semifinal place with a game to spare at Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum on Friday.

Sadomba put Al Hilal ahead in the 41st minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The Zimbabwean struck again in the 68th minute to make sure of A Hilal’s last four place and to end Shandy’s slim hopes of a debut semifinal berth in CAF club competition.

Shandy have three points from five games heading into their final Group A match against bottom placed InterClube of Angola whom they host in a fortnights time.

Al Hilal have 11 points from five games, one point ahead of former leaders and rivals El Merreikh whom they play away in a fortnights time to decide who finishes top of Group A.

El Merreikh, on 10 points from four games, could return to the top of Group A with an away win on Saturday in Luanda to bottom placed InterClube who have on one point and are out of contention and only playing for pride.
