A special prayer session for a peaceful election when Ghanaians go the polls on December 7, 2012 has been held in Kumasi, with Christian and Muslim religious leaders gracing the occasion.

The event, dubbed United Prayer for Peace, organised by Dr Kwame Kyei, Chief Executive Officer of Unity Group of Companies, was to seek the face of God before and after the elections.

Kumasi Chief Imam Alhaji Abdul Mumuni led the Muslim delegation to the open-air all-night religious service while Christian leaders were ferried from both home and abroad.

Some of the pastors were Archbishop Prof Oheneba Agyei-Mensah of the International Ministerial Council of Europe (IMCOE), which is a uniting body for Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches for Ministerial-Networking in Europe; Archbishop Kwaku Frimpong Manso from London, Prophet Israel from Nigeria, Bishop Dr Asafo Agyei Anane Frempong and a host of others.

Dr Kwame Kyei said the idea of assembling priests to pray for the country was not a new initiative but rather a dedicated call to service he had been doing in election years.

According to him, Ghana needed to realise its full potential as a country for the growth of its citizens, and that was an assignment he had taken upon himself to execute.

He prayed for peaceful elections, asking Ghanaians to be tolerant.

Bishop Asafo-Adjei, a medical practitioner, called on Ghana to always give peace a chance.

Ghana, he said, needed peace to fulfill God’s wishes, stressing that everybody should be an ‘agent of peace’.

Archbishop Frimpong-Manso asked Ghanaians to discard negative thinking and put on a positive outlook. “Ghana will continue to live,” he stressed.

Chief Imam Abdul Mumuni warned Muslims not be used as tools for violence and destruction, stressing that it was a great sin in the sight of Allah.

According to the Chief Imam, there was no place for suicide bombers in heaven, asking Muslims to think deeply before taking any action that would undermine national interest and the general wellbeing of Ghanaians.
