Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne has been hospitalised following a suspected heart attack, it has been revealed.

The gym entrepreneur was reportedly taken into a medical facility on Monday after feeling unwell while at work in Darlington.

The 63-year-old, who runs a number of fitness centres, hotels and spas as well as starring on the hit BBC Two show, was taken into Darlington Memorial Hospital.

And he is said to still be in the facility where he is having tests carried out on him.

A representative for The Bannatyne Group said: ‘Everyone at the company is very concerned and upset but we know that Duncan is a very strong person and we are confident he will make a full recovery.

‘Everyone wishes him well. We’d like to thank the quick and professional actions of the paramedics who attended to Duncan and thank the staff at the Memorial Hospital for his ongoing care.’

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service, meanwhile, confirmed that a male from The Bannatyne Group had been taken from the company’s headquarters on Monday morning at 11.40am suffering from chest pains.

And as soon as he was well enough to reassure his fans, he wrote on Twitter on Monday evening in an upbeat mood: ‘Hi. In hospital attached to a few wires feeling tired but am sure I will be discharged tomorrow fit & well (fit a pensioner can be anyway).

‘Today was my first trip inside an Ambulance & with siren wailing. Hope it is the last. LoL.’

Only a few hours earlier Duncan had taken to his Twitter page to air his positive and healthy attitude.

He wrote: It is Monday so start the week on a positive note & stay positive… Good Morning from a very sunny Wynyard Park.’

And he even took the opportunity to encourage his online followers to quit smoking throughout October as part of the ‘Stoptober’ 28 challenge.

Meanwhile fellow Dragon Theo Paphitis pledged his support to his co-star, indicating that it might not have been a heart attack.

He tweeted: ‘In Scotland no mobile signal but managed to make contact with @DuncanBannatyne and he is well undergoing tests does not think heart attack!’

A representative for Bannatyne has been contacted by the MailOnline for comment.
