Rabat — HM King Mohammed VI has sent a congratulations message to Hamid Chabat, elected Sunday afternoon Secretary General of the Istiqlal (independence) Party (PI, in government), voicing hope of full success to the new political leader.
The message said the election of Chabat, Mayor of Fès, reflects the trust the party puts in him thanks to his self-denial within this patriotic party, both as a militant among the grassroot of the party or as a committed and hardworking leading figure.
The monarch said he was confident the new secretary general will spare no efforts to consolidate the active presence of “this important party” in the national political scene, and contribute to reinforcing the foundations of in-party democracy, good governance and the true spirit of citizenship built on serving the general interest and attachment to the values of the nation.
The sovereign also paid tribute to the out-going secretary general, Abbas el Fassi, who, he said, showed a high level of responsibility and political activism.
