Ajimobi betrayed me – Tokyo

IBADAN—THE court-reinstated Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Lateef Akinsola, a.k.a. Tokyo, said, weekend, Governor Abiola Ajimobi reneged on his pre-election promise to reinstate him as the authentic Chairman of the union.

He said he was back-stabbed by the governor, who had given him assurance that if he stood by him during the election, he would ensure that the court order that recognised him as the authentic leader of the union would be implemented without delay.

Tokyo, who was speaking on a private radio station monitored in Ibadan, also clarified that he did not belong to any political party but that he mobilised his men to vote en masse for him because of the situation at hand then.

Reacting to a statement purportedly issued by the national leadership of the union, extending the tenure of the 14-man caretaker committee of the union, he said commercial drivers in the state should disregard the information and henceforth stop giving money to the committee.

He said: “The false statement of the committee was allegedly issued after the national leadership of the union at Abuja refused to grant their request for extension of their illegal tenure based on the existing litigation in court.”

Akinsola showed the court order that forbade the police from arresting or harassing him. The document which had the stamp of the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and dated 19 September 2012, acknowledged the receipt of the court order.
