It was high drama on The X Factor last night as the judges whittled down the acts at Boot Camp.

However, the drinking antics and shock exit of homeless singer Robbie Hance, weren’t enough to turn around the declining viewing figures.

Saturday’s episode attracted 7.86million on ITV1 – down from 8.6million the previous week.

Last week, X Factor was battling its old nemesis Strictly Come Dancing’s launch show for viewers – although both were on at separate times.

Strictly’s launch show attracted an average audience of 8million, with X Factor’s averaging 8.6million.

However, the two shows won’t battle it out again until October 5, when the proper Strictly series starts on BBC1.
