MTN SA Chief Marketing Officer, Serame Taukobong during the Launch

MTN’s Chief Marketing Director Serame Taukobong voiced their excitement for the upcoming MTN8 tournament, the importance of it and the prizes that are up for grabs.

Speculation of an MTN withdrawal from the competition was finally ended when it was announced that MTN and the PSL will be together for a further three more years.

“We are definitely excited about the new tournament,” Taukobong told MTNFootball. “I think the property has grown in stature and people have been anticipating; ‘is MTN in or MTN out’? But it goes to show how big the tournament is.

“We concluded that the agreement in early June but because we had other additional activities, like the Manchester United MTN Invitational tour we decided to let that run through.

“We felt that in truth to Wafa Wafa we felt that ‘The Last Man Standing’ would be the last thing to be communicated.

The tournament will kick-start on August 3, 2012, where defending Champions Orlando Pirates will meet Bloemfontein Celtic, and MTN have announced thrilling prizes to be won.

“I think not just for the teams but for the fans as well. There is still ‘The Last Man Standing’ with the grand prize of R1m and the opportunity to go watch El Clasico in Spain.

“The ladies that come into the stadium there are also prizes up for grabs. It is R8000 for the best dressed lady and she also gets R8000 to donate to a charity of her own choice.

“There will also be airtime and VIP competitions.”

A prelude to the Absa Premiership, the MTN8 tournament is growing in stature.

“It is not just a kick start to the league,” continued Taukobong, “but it is one of the richest tournaments within the league.

“Globally I think it is amongst one of the richest tournaments in most leagues.”
