Ogun, Lagos, Delta win in Ocheho Handball

OGUN State male handball team recorded the highest margin of victory yesterday at the Sam Ocheho Invitational Handball Championship by beating Osun 27-20.

The games were closely fought but the Ogun team made use of fast breaks and defence-splitting passes to run down its opponent and win the encounter. The Osun team had its chances and should have done better if it had better luck in front of goal.

In the other games played, the Lagos II male team defeated Delta 18-61 while Lagos I female team defeated Osun 24-22, just as the Delta female team defeated the Ondo team 17-14.

The Ondo team went into the break with a 9-8 lead but failed to live up to expectations in the second half, where it allowed Delta to take total control of the game. Delta was also very quick on the fast break and once it had the desired lead, it went back to the slow build-up to close the game wit victory.

Coach Oluro Oladeji of Ondo said the game was a good one for both teams, particularly for his girls who were at the event to test their might against the opposition they might face in the National Sports Festival in November in Lagos.
