Gun shots ring through Nakpanduri as Konkombas, Bemobas clash

Reports reaching Joy FM indicate there are exchanges of gun shots and burning of houses at Nakpanduri in the Northern Region.

Konkombas are said to be marching on some villages of the Bemobas. Houses have been set ablaze, the reports say.

Timothy Konlan, a resident of Nakpanduri told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show the disturbance started last night.

He said the police are on the ground but quickly added the numbers are too negligible to quell the situation.

Mr Konlan, who said he was speaking from the Nakpanduri chief’s palace, said the police came to counsel the chief to appeal to his people to hold their horses whilst they make efforts to get the Konkombas to cease fire.

The clashes are suspected to have been triggered by a land dispute.

Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Tuffuor, told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show the men shooting have retreated.

He said a combined police and military team had established calm at a village near Nakpanduri where the violence was acute.
