Cameroon tackle Libya to break away

Cameroonian defender Nicolas Nkoulou should make his return

After beating the DR Congo on Saturday in Yaoundé, Cameroon are aiming for another win against Libya on Sunday (kick-off at 17h00 CAT).

The Indomitable Lions started off well on their qualification campaign for the Brazilian World Cup by beating the Leopards 1-0 during the first week of qualifiers.

And they benefitted from the draw between Togo and Libya 1-1 the following day, to set themselves up alone at the head of Group I.

Denis Lavagne has enjoyed success in his five outings while at the head of the national team, and was finally offered a contract eight months after being appointed coach of the Lions as replacement to Javier Clemente.

His objectives remained the same – that of qualification for the Afcon 2013 and the World Cup 2014 – as the French technician flew to Tunisia on Monday with his players, contract in hand, for their clash against Libya on neutral territory, in Sfax.

Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, Eyong Enoh has still been withdrawn, but Lavagne should recuperate Nicolas Nkoulou at the heart of his defence.

A second consecutive victory would put Cameroon in an ideal position within their group, as they wait for play to resume in March 2013.

The Indomitable Lions will once again be counting on Eric Choupo-Moting to assure the three points.

The young Mainz striker has strung together four goals in three encounters and remains the principal attacking trump-card of the green, red and gold in the absence of their charismatic captain, Samuel Eto’o.

The other Group I clash will see the DR Congo come to blows with les Eperviers (the Sparrowhawks) of Togo on Sunday in Kinshasa.
