Bert Van Marwijk: Netherlands must attack Germany

Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has claimed his side will set out to attack in its next Euro 2012 match against Germany.

The Dutch suffered a shock defeat in their opening game of the tournament as a Michael Krohn-Dehli strike in the first had was enough to give Denmark the three points.

Netherlands failed to find the net with any of their 28 attempts, and Van Marwijk now admits victory in their next match against Germany is a must if they are to advance beyond the group stages of the competition.

“I’m bewildered and shocked that we lost that match,” the former Feyenoord coach told NOS after Sunday’s training session. “We had so many opportunities to decide the game.”

“We are all disappointed. This is normal. But it is the calm before the storm, because everyone realises that it is do or die against Germany on Wednesday. When you play against them you can’t afford to walk along the knife-edge. We must attack and we will attack.”
Netherlands meet their Group B rivals on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. ET.
