Poor education makes ‘voter fodder’

Johannesburg – Government and the ruling party are letting education standards slide to secure future voters, the IFP Youth Brigade chairperson hasĀ  said.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa said those in power were “deliberately killing the quality of education, and deliberately keeping schools under-resourced in South Africa”.

This was an attempt to “consolidate voter fodder” by instilling a culture of dependency in the youth, he said in Mzingazi, outside Richards Bay, on Friday night.

“The youth of 1976 stood up and fought for better education because they realised that an education-less future was worse than apartheid.”

The Inkatha Freedom Party embraced the maxim “education for liberation”, in contrast to “a strategic ploy of the ANC and government to hold South Africans ransom… and keep them dependant…”, Hlengwa said.

Unemployment could be reduced if the quality of education was higher.

“We must not settle for anything less other than education that will improve our lives today and in the future.”
