Uche Akubuike joins Enyimba

Akubuike has moved to Enyimba

Experienced Gombe United goalkeeper Uche Akubuike has joined Enyimba for the rest of the season.

MTNFootball.com gathered that Akubuike was considered ahead of Ebele Obi, the older brother of Chelsea star Mikel Obi, who was released at the end of last season by Enugu Rangers.

Akubuike has played in Malaysia and South Africa and has proved to be like the proverbial good wine that gets better with age.

His experience and sharp reflexes have held him in good stead.

He first made major headlines when as a 16-year-old he was picked by Nigeria coach Bora Milutonovic in the build-up to the 1998 World Cup in France.

But he now has a tough ask ahead of him as he has to fight for a first-team place ahead of Paul Godwin, Richard Ochayi and Chinedu Agwu.

Recent blunders by Godwin have handed the first-team shirt to Ochayi.
