Cape Town – The national prosecuting authority on Thursday expressed concern about a BBC documentary set to air next week which will apparently show never-seen-before footage in the hours before Anni Dewani’s murder.
In a teaser on their website, the BBC’s Panorama programme said that it had “exclusive access to CCTV footage never before seen publicly”.
But the NPA’s Mthunzi Mhaga told News24: “We are obviously concerned because the matter is pending before court and therefore sub judice.
“The documentary will amount to trial by media.”

Panorama said the film will “investigate” the case against Shrien Dewani, Anni’s husband and the alleged mastermind of her murder, who is fighting to avoid extradition to South Africa to avoid trial.
“The CCTV images reveal a different side to the couple than has so far been portrayed,” Panorama said.
Mhaga said the NPA doesn’t know what footage the BBC programme has or even how they got it.
Anni was killed in an apparent hijacking of their taxi in Gugulethu in November 2010. The hijackers had apparently thrown Shrien from the car, leaving him unharmed.
Her body was found in the taxi in Khayelitsha.
The taxi’s driver, Zola Tongo, told police that Shrien offered him R15 000 to have his wife killed.
An extradition order was signed against Dewani by British Home Secretary Theresa May in September last year.
Dewani has since appealed to the British High Court.
