Elections not about me or the NPP, it is about the future of Ghana – Dr. Bawumia

Retained presidential running mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to work with the party’s flag bearer, Nana Akuffo Addo to help transform the economy of the country by creating jobs, enhancing education and revitalizing the NHIS programme when voted into power.

Speaking to journalists hours after he was officially declared the party’s running mate, Dr. Bawumia said, the 2012 general elections is not about him nor Nana Akuffo Addo, but about the future of Ghana.

He said the time was now to bridge the development gap between the north and south and to implement fiscal policies and programmes to help develop the country.

He later expressed his gratitude to the national council of the party for accepting his nomination, promising to live up to meet the challenges ahead.

Before his appointment as the NPP’s running mate, Dr. Bawumia was the Zimbabwe Resident Representative of the Agriculture Development Bank and once served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from January 2006 to January 2009.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Simon Fraser University in Canada and has vast experience in macroeconomics, international economics and monetary economics.
