La Liga
Sevilla have parted ways with coach Marcelino Garcia Torals following their poor form in La Liga which has seen them dropping to 11th position.
Marcelino joined Sevilla ahead of the 2010/11 season as replacement for Gregorio Manzano.
His tenure started on a low note as Sevilla were knocked out in the qualifying stage of the Europa League, but the team made up for it by starting their La Liga campaign with a string of decent results.
However, the Rojiblancos have only picked two points from their last seven matches, and Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Villarreal proved to be the last straw for the Sevilla board.
A statement on the club’s official website reads: “Sevilla have taken the decision this morning to dismiss the first team coach Marcelino Garcia Toral owing to the negative run of results by the team, with seven matches without a victory, during which time only two points have been won.
“The decision was taken after the president, Jose Maria del Nido, and sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Monchi met with the coach to evaluate the sporting situation. Soon after the meeting Monchi communicated to the coach the decision taken.
“Sevilla want to publicly thank Marcelino for his professionalism and work, and regret having to have taken a drastic decision due to the results.”
The club has not announced a replacement but former Getafe coach Michel has been tipped as the leading candidate by the Spanish media.
