The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District, has jailed Gabriel Manfo, a school drop-out, to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for abduction and defilement of a 14-year-old girl.

Manfo pleaded guilty with explanation to two counts of abduction and defilement and to one year for abduction and 10 years for defilement to run concurrently.

Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court that the complainant, Mr. Clement Abedi,  the girl’s father,  is a driver and lives at Akim Oda, while Manfo is unemployed and lives in Apoli village.

Inspector Appiah said two years ago, the convict started having sexual intercourse with the girl and when this came to the notice of the girl’s parents, they took her to St. Agatha’s Boarding School at Akim Swedru.

Manfo continued to visit the child at school and frequently took her out and as a result she was dismissed.  Manfo took the girl to an unknown destination, making it difficult for her parents to locate her.

Manfo moved with the girl to Akim Awisa and Mr Abedi’s investigations led to his arrest.
