BY EMMAN OVUAKPORIE ABUJA – DISTURBED by the slow pace of the various committees in handling the 2012 budget, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Aminu Tambuwal, yesterday, ordered the committees to submit their budget reports on Monday or lose their oversight function of the budget defence to the Appropriation Committee of the House. On January 19, the House suspended plenary session to allow standing committees carry out budget defence with Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government, MDAs, but as at yesterday no committee had submitted any report to the Appropriation Committee. A peeved Tambuwal warned that any committee that failed to submit its report risked the right to defend the budget to the Appropriation Committee, declaring that the Appropriation Committee would take over from any committee that failed to submit its report on or before Monday, February 6, 2012

Pizarro has made 36 appearances for Chile Manchester City have signed Chile midfielder David Pizarro on loan from Roma for the rest of the season. City boss Roberto Mancini coached Pizarro, 32, at Inter Milan, and they won the Serie A title together in 2006. He joined Roma in August 2006, making 142 appearances, but has been out of favour this campaign, featuring just seven times under manager Luis Enrique.

BY PETER OKUTU ABAKALIKI- GOVERNOR Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State, Tuesday, described call by some stakeholders in the South East geopolitical zone for return of Ndigbo from the Northern part of the country due to alleged killings of Igbos by Boko Haram, as a call for the disintegration of Nigeria. The governor, who pointed out that God created Nigerians to live anywhere in the country and not only in Igbo land, further described the call as “misguided”, adding that Nigerians everywhere had the task of being united, irrespective of any socio-political differences that might arise at any given time. Elechi made the statement during a town hall meeting organised by the state government to feel the pulse of its citizenry on issues of both state and national interest.

Andrews made his international debut in 2008 West Bromich Albion have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland international midfielder Keith Andrews on a free transfer from Blackburn. The 31-year-old, who began his career at Wolves, has agreed a contract for the remainder of the season. “Keith is a player I know well and have admired for several seasons,” West Brom boss Roy Hodgson said.
