The recent scoring form of Blackburn Rover’s Yakubu Ayegbeni has not gone unnoticed back home where national team coach Stephen Keshi is in search of players that will make easier his job of trying to return the Super Eagles to the top of African football.

Yakubu scored four goals at the weekend and his pariah status in Nigeria is slowly becoming a thing of the past. The big forward was widely crucified for his point-blank miss against South Korea during last year’s World Cup in South Africa where Nigeria failed to progress beyond the first round.

However, his recent scoring spree that has fetched him nine goals in as many games in the English Premier League for Blackburn Rovers this season might see him return to the squad.

“Only the best players will make my team, no matter what anyone thinks,” Keshi told KickOffNigeria.com.

“I will pick Yak on form to play for Nigeria if he keeps scoring in the English League. I want to win matches and only the fittest in Europe and Nigeria can deliver results for me.”

Yakubu has scored 21 goals for Nigeria in a national team career that has spanned 11 years.
