A LEADING member of the national Democratic Congress (NDC), Dan Kwasi Abodakpi, has hinted that he is not in the party’s chairmanship race to antagonize his contenders.

The former High Commissioner to Malaysia also said, ‘My campaign will not be directed at impugning the performance of our current executive. They have played their part and the party should move on.’

Mr. Abodakpi, who was speaking at the official launch of his campaign to wrestle the NDC top seat from incumbent Dr. Kwabena Adjei, during a media briefing in Accra on

Friday, insisted that nobody could disqualify him for serving a prison sentence since the party’s constitution does not support such a move.

He said, ‘Some people have been raising this issue (prison) but I say it is vexatious.

There is no legal issue that will stop me from taking over the chairmanship of the party.’

He said he was entering the race because he had had ‘extensive and deep consultation across the broad spectrum of the party and had come to the conclusion that there was the need for ‘democratic renewal within the NDC.’

‘The call for our party to have new lease of life has been growing and this call cannot be ignored. I would like to be given the nod so that together we will reconnect the NDC to its core value and its mass base,’ Abodakpi underscored.

According to him, ‘At 22, the NDC has many more years of growth ahead and at no point must the party rest on its oars and allow complacency to set in. The NDC was not born to atrophy; the NDC was born to live!’

He added, ‘It is not an inordinate desire by Abodakpi to lead the great NDC.

It is a call to keep all parts of the NDC tree alive and root the party firmly into the future.’

Also in the race is Kofi Portuphy, National Coordinator, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
