The actress’s parents did not die but moved to the UK to work as nurses and their absence affected her deeply.

“I didn’t have my parents around for a long time when I was growing up. I never felt like my parents abandoned us because I knew they were trying to do their best for us,” she explained.

Mapula’s family moved to Tshwane from Klerksdorp when she was only 10 years old and that was the same years her parents moved to the UK. She was left in the care of her older sister, Tebogo (38), and her husband, producer and DJ Christos (49).

“It was a difficult time for me. I was too young. I had to change schools and the move from Klerksdorp, which is a small town, to the big city – it was tough. My brother-in-law is a DJ and being exposed to the fast life was a lot to take in.”

“I bottled up a lot of my thoughts and feelings and I became depressed and anxious. At times I would lock myself in my bedroom, sleep for days and not eat. I’d cry and wonder why I was on Earth at all,” she added

Mapula says she knew something was wrong and that she was not okay when she was 13. She says therapy and acting saved her life. In 2012 landed her first TV role on Intersexions.

“I played a young girl who was dealing with issues similar to mine. That role gave me hope and affirmed that acting is really what I wanted to do.” She followed it up with a stint on Generations: The Legacy before joining the cast of Rhythm City.

The actress says she still faces moments of depression and anxiety, but acting has been a true blessing. “Playing Mapula has encouraged me because she has been through a lot and she can still get up and pull herself together. She inspires me to do better every day.”

Luckily, she has found her passion now, and she is much happier. When celebrities open up about their mental health struggles, it can really benefit other people who are going through the same experience. It’s important for sufferers of depression to discuss their problems, as it helps others speak up about their mental health issues and provide relief.

These days, there are many medications and treatments that people use across the world, and as the conversation opens up, stigma over depression lessens. People are now looking for alternative remedies to treat the symptoms of depression, such as green malay kratom and other natural treatments. It’s believed that more people will be able to access treatment for depression and methods that works for them as a result.

In the Netherlands, one unorthodox treatment for depression is a drop of “beste CBD olie“, or cannabis oil in English. It acts as a mood lifter, as well as a pain reliever, and can have a versatile use in European medicine. In Canada, it’s said that many people have been using the cannabis plant, or “weed” as they call it. It’s believed to improve an individual’s mood significantly if smoked or mixed into food and it’s not uncommon to see purchases of bulk weed in Canada. In many countries around the world, laws regarding the use of cannabis are relaxing and it is even possible to grow it for personal use in some countries where opinions have drastically changed. One of those countries is the USA, although only some states allow you to grow it. If you live in one of those states, visit i49.net for seeds. Cannabis has been found to work well for some people, so it might be worth trying it out.

Rhythm City’s Mapula Mafole Opens Up About Battling Depression!
