President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation on Sunday from the Union Buildings, reflecting on South Africa\u2019s hosting of the G20 Leaders\u2019 Summit in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
In a short statement issued to the media, the Presidency said the address, scheduled for 19:00, will cover the outcomes of South Africa\u2019s G20 presidency<\/p>\n
“President Cyril Ramaphosa will tonight, Sunday, 30 November 2025, address the nation following the country\u2019s Presidency of the G20 and successful hosting of the Leaders’ summit in Johannesburg”. <\/p>\n
This comes as South Africa continues to deal with the fallout from the recent G20, which was marked by diplomatic tensions with the United States over the level of representation at the summit and the formal handover of the G20 presidency.<\/p>\n
South Africa refused to hand over the presidency to a junior US Embassy official, insisting that only a head of state, senior minister, or special envoy could participate in the ceremonial transfer of the G20 presidency.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump said South Africa would not be invited to next year\u2019s G20 summit in Miami, linking the decision to the dispute over the handover and raising concerns over human rights in the country.<\/p>\n
previously reported that President Cyril Ramaphosa\u2019s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said Ramaphosa had noted the statement regarding South Africa\u2019s G20 participation.<\/p>\n
\u201cSouth Africa will continue to participate as a full, active and constructive member of the G20,\u201d Magwenya said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe call on all members of the G20 to reaffirm its continued operation in the spirit of multilateralism, based on consensus, with all members participating on an equal footing in all of its structures. It is regrettable that, despite the efforts and numerous attempts by President Ramaphosa and his administration to reset diplomatic relations with the United States, President Trump continues to apply punitive measures against South Africa based on misinformation and distortions.\u201d<\/p>\n
