ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has announced that the party will reveal its mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni this Saturday, as the 2026 local government election campaign begins to gather momentum across Gauteng.<\/p>\n
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mashaba addressed residents of Ekurhuleni directly, saying he had come to hear about their daily struggles with crime, corruption, and the collapse of basic services.<\/p>\n
\u201cFellow South Africans, I\u2019m here today in Ekurhuleni speaking to the residents about their daily struggles. Struggles of crime, corruption and the collapse of basic services,\u201d Mashaba said.<\/p>\n
He was quick to clarify that he will not be standing for the position himself: \u201cI know what some of you might be thinking. The answer is no. I’m not the one to run as the mayor of your city.\u201d<\/p>\n
Instead, Mashaba said he would be introducing a candidate who is ready to \u201ctake the fight against lawlessness and corruption head on\u201d and committed to restoring reliable basic services to all communities in the metro.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis coming Saturday, the 4th of October, I will be introducing ActionSA’s exciting candidate for the mayor of your city, Ekurhuleni,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, join us on Saturday the 4th of October, on all our social media platforms. On the 4th of October, we take the fight to fix Ekurhuleni.\u201d<\/p>\n
ActionSA\u2019s announcement comes shortly after the Democratic Alliance (DA) confirmed its own mayoral candidates for major metros.<\/p>\n
DA leader John Steenhuisen recently unveiled DA federal council chairperson Helen Zille as the party\u2019s candidate for the City of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
Last Friday, Steenhuisen also announced that Haniff Hoosen would stand as the DA\u2019s mayoral candidate for eThekwini.<\/p>\n
