{"id":245277,"date":"2025-07-07T11:47:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T11:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/za\/2025\/07\/07\/floyd-shivambu-slams-minister-mchunu-over-allegations-of-political-interference-and-calls-for-action\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T11:47:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T11:47:00","slug":"floyd-shivambu-slams-minister-mchunu-over-allegations-of-political-interference-and-calls-for-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/za\/2025\/07\/07\/floyd-shivambu-slams-minister-mchunu-over-allegations-of-political-interference-and-calls-for-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Floyd Shivambu slams Minister Mchunu over allegations of political interference and calls for action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/image-prod.iol.co.za\/16x9\/800?source=https:\/\/iol-prod.appspot.com\/image\/eb1da7a84c06fcd3721718c831f795055a53cab2\/1280&amp;operation=CROP&amp;offset=0x67&amp;resize=1280x720\" class=\"type:primaryImage\"><\/p>\n<p>Mayibuye National Convenor Floyd Shivambu says South Africa is facing a dangerous moment of truth and must act swiftly to stop political interference and criminal collusion within law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>His comments come after KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, revealed that Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu interfered in sensitive investigations by disbanding the elite Political Killings Task Team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe commend Commissioner Mkhwanazi for his courage and integrity,\u201d Shivambu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis principled stand affirms that there are still patriots within the state apparatus committed to the rule of law and the protection of our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shivambu added that the time for silence is over. \u201cThe responsibility now lies with the public, media, judiciary, and crucially President Ramaphosa, to take bold action and ensure that accountability triumphs over impunity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mayibuye Consultation Process (MCP) spokesperson Sidney Baloyi expressed alarm, saying the Commissioner\u2019s allegations \u201cpaint a deeply disturbing picture of a compromised national security apparatus.\u201d According to Baloyi, \u201cSenior political and police officials are allegedly colluding with criminal syndicates to obstruct investigations, derail justice, and protect those responsible for political assassinations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baloyi was direct in his criticism of the Minister of Police. \u201cEven more alarming is the direct claim that the Minister of Police himself may be part of these criminal networks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The MCP is calling for the immediate dismissal of Mchunu by President Cyril Ramaphosa. \u201cGiven the serious allegations that implicate him in protecting criminals and obstructing justice, the President has no choice but to act decisively,\u201d said Baloyi.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the minister\u2019s removal, the MCP is demanding the arrest of all implicated individuals, including Mchunu, Lieutenant General Sibiya, and Brown Mokgotsi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwift action by law enforcement agencies is non-negotiable if we are to restore public confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also called for the immediate reinstatement of the disbanded Political Killings Task Team under independent oversight. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>There must be a credible, functioning unit to investigate political killings, free from interference,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The MCP further wants Parliament to establish a full Inquiry alongside a Judicial Commission to investigate the depth of political interference in the SAPS and the extent of criminal infiltration in law enforcement and intelligence structures.<\/p>\n<p>Baloyi said: \u201cWe also demand immediate protection and legal support for whistleblowers such as Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi and others prepared to expose corruption within the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baloyi warned, \u201cSouth Africa must not descend into a mafia state where Cabinet Ministers shield criminals and intelligence operations are compromised for political convenience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Shivambu and the Mayibuye leadership insist that the next move lies with President Ramaphosa. \u201cAccountability must triumph over impunity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shivambu also announced new leadership roles within the movement\u2019s communications structure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMCP is proud to announce the appointment of Sidney Baloyi and Hlumelo Biko as its official Spokespersons. Their wealth of experience and dedication to transformative communication will amplify our mission to engage meaningfully with South Africans and stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baloyi, a veteran radio broadcaster and communications expert with over 30 years in the field, brings unmatched clarity and gravitas to MCP\u2019s messaging.<\/p>\n<p>Biko, who studied Politics and History at the University of Cape Town and pursued graduate studies at Georgetown University\u2019s School of Foreign Service, adds strategic depth. With over 26 years of experience as a business investor and author of four books, Biko is poised to be a critical thought leader within the movement.<\/p>\n<p>Shivambu noted that the&nbsp; National Consultation Team (NCT) meeting held on July 5 and 6, 2025 affirmed the full participation rights of both Spokespersons in the leadership structures of the Mayibuye Consultation Process.<\/p>\n<p>The outcomes of this meeting will be officially released on Tuesday, July 8.&nbsp; 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayibuye Consultation Process is a bold, inclusive initiative to forge a new political path for South Africa.
