Ole, Ole, Ole! Kaizer Chiefs\u2019 reserve team are the champions of the PSL reserve team \u2013 the DStv Diski Challenge \u2013 for the first time in 10 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chiefs achieved this milestone with a game to spare after beating Magesi FC 3-0 at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coach Vela Khumalo\u2019s team had been leading the standings for some time this season, and they got a huge boost in their aspirations on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The PSL DC ruled that they must be awarded three points and 3-0 win over Chippa United after the Chilli Boys failed to pitch for their clash on February 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

That verdict ensured that they went into their game against Magesi with 64 points, four ahead of the second-placed outgoing champions Stellenbosch FC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chiefs will feel vindicated for the triumph as Khumalo and his team have shown that they are able to nurture depth for the first team, while grinding results.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amakhosi\u2019s sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to congratulate the young lads.<\/span><\/p>\n

With all their flaws this season, the first team have benefited from the fruits of the reserves, given the impact of the graduates from the youth academy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala are now setting top-flight football alight in the first team after being promoted recently.<\/span><\/p>\n

The success of Khumalo will bring a positive vibe around the club given that the first team has endured a rollercoaster ride this season across all competitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chiefs\u2019 top-eight finish is not yet confirmed as they need to secure a whopping number of points in their remaining Premiership matches, having lost 2-1 Marumo Gallants on Saturday afternoon at the FNB Stadium.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Amakhosi are now ninth on the PSL log on 30 points, with Chippa United eighth due to a better points difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

But not all is doom and gloom.<\/span><\/p>\n

They could still end their 10-year drought if they beat arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final on May 10 in Durban.<\/span><\/p>\n
