Blxckie, one of South Africa\u2019s most celebrated hip-hop artists, has had an extraordinary year, both personally and professionally. Not only has he released new music, but he\u2019s also taken on his most significant role yet\u2014becoming a dad. As if that wasn\u2019t enough, he\u2019s also been nominated for a 2024 BET Hip Hop Award.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of his year was the release of his hit single \u201cSouth,\u201d a song he created with production duo Daytrip. In an exclusive interview with , Blxckie revealed that the song came to life after experimenting with three different versions, all built around a captivating sample. The final version was something special, leading him to shoot the music video in his hometown of Durban.<\/p>\n

His collaboration with Sprite further showcased his growing influence, as his face graced the brand\u2019s packaging. Yet, his biggest adventure of the year is his international tour titled\u00a0See U Soon<\/em>, named after his EP, which was released under his new label, Def Jam.<\/p>\n

Blxckie explained the meaning behind the tour\u2019s name, saying, \u201cSee U Soon<\/em>\u00a0is me telling the people here at home that I\u2019ve got some work to do outside the country, so I\u2019ll be back; I\u2019ll see you soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

His 2024 BET Hip Hop Award nomination comes at a time when South African hip-hop is thriving on the global stage. \u201cIt shows that people internationally are paying attention,\u201d he said, reflecting on the success of his peers and the rise of local hip-hop.<\/p>\n

Beyond the music, Blxckie is navigating the challenges of fatherhood. He shared how exciting yet overwhelming it is to experience so many \u201cfirsts\u201d as a new parent. \u201cI\u2019m learning a lot, and the baby is doing well and is healthy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

But with his international tour approaching, leaving his daughter behind has been tough. \u201cIt hurts a little bit. Since she\u2019s been born, I haven\u2019t really been out of the country or away for that long,\u201d Blxckie admitted, adding that he\u2019s mastered diaper duty thanks to online tutorials.<\/p>\n

Blxckie\u2019s tour kicks off on his birthday, November 24, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for him. He\u2019s eager to see how fans react to his music, which spans a variety of genres. With a solid brand and a rapidly growing international presence, the future looks bright for this multi-talented artist.<\/p>\n
