Shekhinah Gets Candid About Being Raised By A White Family! <\/strong>The award winning singer has taken over the music scene by storm commanding a strong fanbase. The singer recently opened up about being raised by white parents and her experience with racism. \u201cI had so much love at home, the love that I have experienced is unreal, it\u2019s organic, it\u2019s natural. It\u2019s the reason why I love everybody. When leaving home, I was always so charged up with that love and respect that whenever I was disrespected for not speaking isiZulu or not having a good weave or not knowing what to do with my hair because my parents are white and not doing phondo\u2019s on my hair before I sleep.\u201d <\/i><\/p>\n That used to bother me and I got upset but then I quickly moved on and by the time I was in grade 11 I had done Idols and then everybody wanted to be my friend,\u201d <\/i>she said. <\/p>\n On racism, Shekhinah says moving to Johannesburg exposed her to racism she wishes she had not experienced. \u201cThe only time I started to experience racism was last year when I began paying my own bills and getting my own apartment, that\u2019s when I was exposed to a whole lot of things that I wish I wasn\u2019t exposed to,\u201d <\/i>she said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I came to Joburg I was always around black people who were very Black\u00a0Conscious and I wasn\u2019t. I just didn\u2019t understand why you\u2019d hate white people because I love my white family, but then I would be around white people that were like \u2018You\u2019re very cool because you\u2019re not like that.\u2019 So I was exposed to those two worlds and I just didn\u2019t understand it but my eyes were opened, and I got some education and I\u2019ve formulated my own opinion about it.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n <\/p><\/div>\n <\/p><\/div>\n
